Our Editorial Mission

Utilia's editorial mission is to provide accurate, unbiased, and clearly explained information to help users understand the results of their calculations. Every article, FAQ, and tool description on this site is written to inform — not to sell, persuade, or mislead. We do not accept payment to feature, promote, or favorably describe any product, service, or organization.

How Content Is Created

Content on Utilia is created through a structured process:

  1. Formula verification — every calculator is built from a published or industry-standard formula. Sources include textbooks, government agencies (IRS, CDC, WHO), and peer-reviewed research. Formula sources are documented internally and referenced on the calculator page where applicable.
  2. Written explanation — each tool is paired with a plain-English explanation of what the formula does, what the inputs mean, and how to interpret the results. Technical language is defined on first use.
  3. Worked examples — calculator pages include one or more worked numerical examples showing how the formula is applied to a realistic scenario.
  4. FAQ review — FAQ sections are written to address the most common questions and misconceptions about the topic, drawn from real user questions and search behavior.
  5. Internal review — all content is reviewed for accuracy and clarity before publication. High-stakes topics (medical, legal, financial) go through an additional factual review.

Accuracy Standards

We hold all Utilia content to the following standards:

  • Formulas must be sourced. We do not invent formulas or use undocumented heuristics. Every calculation is based on a published, verifiable source.
  • Claims must be factual. Statements about financial concepts, health benchmarks, or regulatory thresholds are verified against primary sources — IRS publications, WHO guidelines, published academic research — not secondary summaries.
  • Estimates are labeled as estimates. When a calculator produces a projection or estimate (retirement savings, life expectancy, pregnancy timing), the result is explicitly labeled as an estimate and accompanied by a disclaimer about its limitations.
  • No manufactured urgency or fear. We do not use scare language, exaggerated worst-case scenarios, or urgency cues to drive clicks or conversions.

Update and Review Policy

Content is reviewed and updated when:

  • Underlying reference data changes — for example, IRS tax brackets are updated each January when the IRS publishes new inflation adjustments.
  • A calculation formula is revised by the governing body or professional organization that publishes it.
  • A user or reader reports an error and the report is verified as correct.
  • We identify outdated statistics, changed regulatory thresholds, or superseded research during routine content review.

Pages display a "last updated" date when content has been substantively revised. Minor grammar and formatting edits do not trigger a date update.

Corrections Policy

We take errors seriously. If you believe a calculation, formula, or factual statement on Utilia is incorrect, please contact us with the specific page, the claim you believe is wrong, and your source. We investigate all reported errors and, when confirmed, correct them promptly — typically within 48 hours for formula errors and within 5 business days for editorial corrections.

Substantive corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected page with a brief description of what was changed and when.

Advertising Independence

Utilia is supported by display advertising. Our editorial content is fully independent from our advertising relationships. Advertisers have no influence over tool design, calculator results, article content, or the prominence given to any product, service, or company on this site. Ads are served programmatically and are not reviewed or endorsed by Utilia before display.

We do not publish sponsored articles, paid reviews, or affiliate-linked recommendations. If this policy changes in the future, paid or sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such.

Scope of This Policy

This editorial policy covers all written content on easyutilia.com including calculator descriptions, article pages, FAQ sections, and tool explanations. It does not govern user-submitted content (we do not currently publish user-submitted articles). Questions about this policy can be directed to our contact page.
